If you have teeth that are very broken or have been filled substantially in the past giving either poor functionality, aesthetics or both then dental crowns, or onlays, could be the recommended treatment option for you.
Dental crowns will restore a tooth to its full form and function by encompassing the entire tooth surface. This can improve both functionality and aesthetics in a single pain-free treatment.

Onlays are very similar, but are often regarded as a more modern, even more minimally invasive procedure. They can achieve the same benefits as dental crowns but with less tooth preparation and will be advised instead of a crown wherever suitable.
The procedure: your tooth will be prepared for a crown or onlay by reducing it sufficiently for the crown or onlay to fit over it. This is performed in a minimally invasive manner, by removing mostly old filling materials and as little tooth structure as possible. The procedure will be entirely pain-free and will last around 30 minutes for a single tooth, with regular breaks as you require to maintain your comfort.
A digital scan (replacing traditional gooey impressions/moulds) will then be taken of the tooth, which our specialised dental technicians will use to build your new crown or onlay, prior to us simply fitting this into your mouth at a visit a week or two later. A temporary will be fitted in the interim time. You can usually eat straightaway.
